What is “TheatreRats”?
We are a fast-growing non-profit organization whose aim is to reinvigorate a sense of community among artists in New York. TheatreRats produces reinventions of plays written before 1900, presents The Annual Chester Horn Short Play Festival (a one-week festival of 10-15 minute plays from authors around the world) and hosts Bard Night a couple times a year as well as other fun, theatrical activities and readings.
TheatreRats believes that Off Off Broadway Theatre can not only be quality and professional but fun and a great place where actors and designers get to work as a team on their craft in an amazing atmosphere with great people we like to call our NYC family.
Please visit us often so you can stay up to date on what we’re working on so you can come see our work OR get involved!
Mission Statement
TheatreRats is a non-profit organization striving to produce the highest quality theatre utilizing the best resources available. We nurture existing artistic collaboration while fostering new talent and encouraging the various artistic disciplines of theatre. We achieve this by actively seeking out new works to produce as well as reinventing the classics (Pre-WWI). We believe that theatre is prescient, immediate, and a transformative power in our society, and exist to uphold this ideal by valuing respect, equity, community, and fun.
